Our Story

Our passion since 1986 has been improving the lives of patients and healthcare professionals through locally owned and operated infusion pharmacies across the country.

Vital Care of the Four States is a specialty and infusion pharmacy located in beautiful downtown Neosho, MO. Originally known by BioEthics Advantage, Inc. when we started in 2010, our focus was to provide blood clotting factor to severe and moderately severe hemophilia patients. Since these medications are expensive, and hemophilia is rare, most retail pharmacies are unable to shoulder the financial burden and maintain the care for these unique patients.

Most of the owners of Vital Care of the Four States were actually involved in a similar pharmacy in Dallas, TX in the mid to late 1990’s. With a unique mix of pharmacists, nurses, business minds, and field representatives, Choice Source Therapeutics became a nationally recognized leader in the hemophilia and specialty market with physical locations in Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Tulsa, OK; Daphne, AL; Seattle, WA; and Puerto Rico. Ultimately, that business was acquired by Caremark (CVS) in 2001. The reputation built during the development of that business laid the groundwork for the emergence of BioEthics in 2010. Patient centered care and versatility, only found in a smaller more agile company, brings a personal aspect to a sometimes cold and insincere medical industry.

In today’s corporately controlled and limited market, we found that various insurance companies and PBM’s were not allowing smaller pharmacies into their contracts. This is referred to as a “carve out.” To meet this challenge, yet stay independent, we joined the Vital Care franchise in 2017. They allowed us to maintain our independence as a small business with internal owners, but offered leverage with their multiple franchisees. This opened up contract access and medication purchasing opportunities.

We are proud of the organization we have built and the growth we continue to see every day. We started as a pharmacy operating from a card table in a single room, to a facility with in-house sterile and non-sterile compounding labs. We have on-staff nurses for in-home and suite based infusion services, and a variety of well-trained support staff from pharmacy technicians to field representatives. At Vital Care of the Four States, we make sure our patients remain confident and comfortable every time we see them.

Our Team

Jeff Werneke  |  COO / Owner

I am one of the owners of Vital Care of the Four States and currently serve as the Chief Operating Officer for the organization. I have served in a small business management role for over 30 years in a wide array of industries. My first exposure to the specialty and infusion business was in the late 1990’s when I was involved with the growth and ultimate sale of a hemophilia focused specialty pharmacy spanning multiple states across the U.S. Our “patient first” focus translated to incredible growth and a stellar reputation in the market at that time.

With those same guiding principles in mind, and many of those same owners, in 2010 we found the opportunity to enter the infusion market once again, starting with an emphasis on hemophilia, but later expanding into a wide array of specialty and infusible therapies not commonly offered by traditional retail pharmacies. I feel that my history with lean manufacturing and lean operations has given me a unique skillset to weather a very challenging and tight margin medical environment.

I spend much of my time volunteering in the community as the Board Chair of the local sheltered workshop, Board Chair of the local economic development organization, involvement with Rotary for over 20 years, and commitment to a variety of school levy and bond elections for the expansion and fortification of the school district. I am a former two time Mayor of our community and have developed two residential subdivisions totaling over 50 single family building lots.

My wife Debbie, my two sons, Lukas and Landon, and I are proud of the legacy we have built in our small part of the world.
